The COTEC 2025 report reveals a worrying digitalization gap in Spanish industry: only 31% of manufacturing SMEs have adopted any 4.0 technology (IoT, big data, collaborative robotics, AI), while large companies exceed 78%.
Brussels' view
The DESI 2025 Report (Digital Economy and Society Index) places Spain 7th in the EU on overall business digitalization, but 15th in industrial adoption. Germany, Italy and France lead with significantly better-prepared industrial SMEs.

Generative AI is shaping up as the definitive catalyst: quoting, production planning, and customer service can be automated at very low cost. SMEs entering in 2026-2027 will gain real competitive advantage over laggards.
